FAQ
All your questions, our answers
The service, the recruitment process, life on site. Everything candidates ask us most often, sorted by topic.
1
The Expat-U service
Yes, completely. You never pay anything: no application fees, no commission, no costs on arrival. We’re paid by the employers who entrust us with their hiring.
You fill out the online application form. If your profile matches one of our offers, a recruiter usually calls you back within 24 hours to discuss your situation and present available positions.
No, the form doesn’t commit you to anything. It’s just the starting point of a conversation. You decide at every step whether to continue or not.
Yes. We remain your point of contact even once you’re on site. If something isn’t going well, we discuss it and find a solution with you.
2
The recruitment process
On average 2 to 4 weeks between your first contact and arrival on site. Some candidates leave in around 10 days, others prefer to take their time. We adapt to your pace.
A first call with your Expat-U recruiter, online tests, then a phone interview with our partner. If everything goes well, you receive a job offer and we arrange your departure together.
Short tests that evaluate your language skills, English, writing and typing speed. Nothing tricky — they just help match you to the right position.
The interview is by phone with our partner. We prepare you in advance so you know what to expect and feel confident going in.
That’s not the end of the journey. We offer you other positions that better match your profile or interests. Our goal is for you to truly find your place, not just to place you at any cost.

Profile & eligibility
A high school diploma is generally required. Beyond the degree, what really matters: mastering your native language in writing and speaking, and being comfortable on the phone.
No. Our positions are open to native English, French, German or Dutch speakers. You’ll work in your native language, not in Portuguese or Greek.
A B1 English level is often required since it’s the internal communication language in international companies. Some missions are accessible with a more modest level.
Yes. European Union citizenship is essential to work freely in the countries where we place candidates.
No. The average age of our candidates is around 25, but our positions are open to all adults regardless of age.
No, many of our positions are accessible to junior profiles. Training is provided on arrival to bring you up to speed on the job and tools.
4
Salary & housing
It depends on the country and the position. In Portugal, gross salaries range from around €1,000 to €1,800/month. In Athens or Malta, you can easily reach €1,500-2,200. Given the local cost of living, your purchasing power is often higher than back home.
The vast majority of our offers include company housing to start, or relocation support. The exact conditions vary from one mission to another — we detail them before you sign.
Yes, the flight is generally reimbursed. The exact terms are specified for each offer.
Depending on the offer: full training on arrival, airport pickup, administrative support, language courses, company activities and 22 paid leave days. Details on each job description.

Life on site
In Portugal, life is on average 30% cheaper than in the UK. A restaurant meal is around €10, and rent remains affordable, especially with housing support in the first months.
Yes. Between airport pickup, administrative support and housing assistance, you don’t arrive alone. The idea is for you to focus on your new life, not on paperwork.
Teams are young and international. Beyond the office, there’s often a cafeteria and regular events: surf outings, meals, language courses, trekking, tournaments. Plenty of ways to meet people quickly.
We remain your point of contact after your arrival. If something isn’t right, we talk about it. In some cases, we can help you change position or destination.
