Job adverts are good at listing requirements and bad at describing what you actually do between nine and six. If you live in Lisbon and you are weighing up customer support jobs in Lisbon, this is the part that decides whether you will still be there in a year: the type of questions you handle, the rhythm of a shift, the tools on your screen, what your manager looks at every week, and what lands in your bank account. Six briefs are open in the city right now, around 50 positions each, all on site, on two campuses in the Oriente and Entrecampos districts. Here is what the work looks like from the inside, without the brochure language.
The three families of missions on the Lisbon English desks
Almost everything open today falls into one of three families. The first is technical user support on a generative AI platform, run for a world leading generative AI company: people write in because an account will not upgrade, an export failed, a subscription was charged twice or a feature behaves differently than they expected. Most of it is written, calm, and genuinely interesting once you know the product. The second family is advertising support, run for a global social media group and for a leading online community platform: small business owners and agencies ask why a campaign was rejected, how to fix a tracking error or how to read their own numbers. The third is business to business advertising sales, where you call companies that already advertise and help them spend better. Same office, same contract, three very different days.
The six roles open right now, shift by shift
All six are on site in Lisbon, with around 50 positions on each brief, which is why a group can start every couple of weeks. Choose on the shift pattern first, because that is what you will live with. You can read each brief in full on the Lisbon job offers page.

| AI user support, 24/7 | Full rotation, days, nights and weekends | Oriente | 50 |

A day on a day shift, hour by hour
Day shifts sit inside the 07:00 to 22:00 window and are built around a queue. You log in, pick up where the previous shift stopped, and work through tickets and calls with a short briefing in the middle. The table below is a realistic 09:00 to 18:00 day on a written support queue. Volumes move with the account, but the shape of the day does not.
| Time | What you are doing |
|---|---|
| 08:45 | Badge in, coffee, read the handover notes from the night team |
| 09:00 | Open the queue, clear the tickets escalated overnight |
| 10:30 | Peak volume, 10 to 15 written cases per hour depending on complexity |
| 12:00 | Team huddle, 15 minutes on new product changes and known issues |
| 12:30 | Lunch break, one hour, meal card at the campus canteen or nearby |
| 13:30 | Back on the queue, phone or chat block depending on the brief |
| 15:30 | Short break, then the complex cases you parked in the morning |
| 17:00 | Quality review of two of your own cases with your team leader |
| 18:00 | Write the handover, log out, metro home |
The paid initial training and your first weeks
Nobody is dropped on a live queue on day one. Every brief starts with around 15 days of paid initial training, in a classroom on site, covering the product, the internal tools, the tone of voice of the account and the rules you cannot bend, for instance around user data. You practise on simulated cases, you shadow someone experienced, then you take your first real tickets with someone sitting next to you. Weeks three and four are the honest adjustment period: you are slower than the target, you ask a lot of questions, and that is expected. Most people reach normal productivity somewhere between the sixth and the tenth week. Your contract is a Portuguese employment contract, so you accumulate 22 working days of holiday per year and you get the 13 public holidays.
The tools you work with and what gets measured
You will live in three or four windows: a ticketing tool for written cases, a softphone or chat console, an internal knowledge base you search constantly, and the account dashboard. Nothing exotic, and all of it is taught in training. What is measured matters more than what is installed. On support briefs, the two numbers that count are quality, scored by a reviewer who reads a sample of your cases against a grid, and customer satisfaction, collected from the survey users fill in after your answer. Handling time and adherence to your planned schedule are tracked too, but good teams treat them as hygiene rather than as the target. On the sales brief, it is revenue and pipeline. One honest point: these roles are scored every month, so if you dislike being measured, this is not the industry for you.
Pay, bonuses and what the contract includes
The announced package starts at 1 248 euros gross per month. That figure already includes the Portuguese holiday and Christmas allowances spread across twelve payments plus a meal card, which is why it looks higher than the headline you may see elsewhere, and a performance bonus of up to 200 euros can be added on top. The business to business sales brief works differently: commission there can reach 2 000 euros per month for people who hit their numbers. Everything is declared normally in Portugal, which means a tax number, a social security number registered with Seguranca Social and a local bank account, and it also means the standard cover of a Portuguese contract. For context on pay and conditions across Europe, the EURES portal publishes comparable national data.
| Element | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Announced monthly package | From 1 248 euros gross | Includes holiday and Christmas allowances spread monthly, plus meal card |
| Performance bonus | Up to 200 euros per month | Support briefs, based on quality and satisfaction |
| Sales commission | Up to 2 000 euros per month | Business to business advertising sales brief only |
| Paid initial training | Around 15 days | Paid at the normal rate from day one |
| Holiday | 22 working days per year | Plus 13 public holidays |
Where the job can take you next, and who can apply
Customer experience centres promote from inside because it is cheaper and faster than hiring outside. After six to twelve months on a queue, the usual moves are subject matter expert, quality analyst, trainer, workforce planning, or team leader on a group of ten to fifteen people. On the advertising side, people often move from support into account management or into the sales brief, where the commission is. These are real internal markets, advertised on the intranet, and the main thing that gets you picked is a steady quality score plus a reputation for helping the new joiners. Two or three years in a global account also reads very well on a CV anywhere in Europe.
As for getting in, these briefs are for people already living in the Lisbon area, with no move to organise. You need to be allowed to work in Portugal already, which means EU citizenship, a valid Portuguese residence card that permits professional activity, or a Portuguese work permit. The official requirement on English is C1 and in practice native or C2 speakers are the ones who pass the written assessment. Secondary school completed, comfortable with a computer, available for the shift pattern you choose. Expat-U does the pre-selection and presents your file, the interview and the contract are handled directly with the employer, and you pay nothing. The next step is the Lisbon application form.
Frequently asked questions
Is any of this remote or hybrid?
No. All six briefs are on site in Lisbon, on the Oriente or Entrecampos campus. That is a firm condition of the accounts, so plan your commute before you choose a shift.
Do I need previous call centre experience?
It helps on the sales brief and it is not required on support. Training is around 15 days and is built for people arriving without the product knowledge. Written English and composure under pressure weigh more than a matching job title.
Can I choose my shift, or is it assigned?
You choose the brief, and the brief defines the pattern: day only, night only, full rotation, or Monday to Friday office hours. Inside a rotation the exact planning is published in advance by the workforce team, usually a few weeks ahead.
